NOTES:
Again with the Beatles. Really the musical idea started out as no more or less than to make a song have the same atmosphere as “Across the Universe”. The last Radiohead record to me also tried to dip a toe into this deep water. The spirit of it, not an imitation. I added the drum loop and verse 2 bass groove very late in the game, probably the last thing before mixing it.  Just seemed to need it somehow and we had in mind to keep you grooving. Steve Durkee had work on a version of it and came up with a great string arrangement for the middle part. We took up the torch from there and finished it off. Lots of nods to the Beatles, especially the Harrison-y guitar bends and falsetto backing vocals over the last chorus, not to mention the mellotron choir on all the choruses. Lyrically it’s the idea of a lovers healing touch when the life/world has beaten a person up. I took the idea of a religious light, a Mother Mary’s light, if you will, and put it emanating a little closer, from a lover. Beautiful and simple was the idea.

LYRICS:
Can you let her go
Could you let her slip away
She takes you down
Don’t wanna get away
When the world comes down around me

Light comes down around me
Her light comes down
Don’t even show, surrounds me
Don’t even show

When you let her go
It tears your soul away
I want her now
I want her now to stay
The world beats down around me

(CHORUS)

(BRIDGE)

The world beats down around me

(CHORUS)(FIN)
