NOTES:
Plan and simple it started as a song to and for my son Lafe. We worked to try to make it more universal and give it a “may the road rise to meet you” vibe, of friends off to other adventures. This track almost broke Justice and I but in the end made us get ourselves to the next level of our thinking. We recorded it at first with a very traditional sound, but it just sat there. So, we erased a bunch of the tracks we loved and restructured it. I remember it feeling like an epiphany when we dropped down to just orchestration and vocals in the bridge and then using a kind of techno beat to add power and lift. There’s a little Coldplay in this but there’s a little Radiohead at the top to balance it out. The piano sound idea was stolen from Thom York’s solo record and also Kanye’s record. The song is cinematic and unfolding but most of all I wanted it just to be beautiful. I wanted it to be a “let the road rise to meet you” song, a farewell to friends leaving, but I can’t hide that it was also a way for me to say to my son what I wished for him in life. If it’s a little too pop or too sentimental, I can live with it. With all my love, Lafe, your daddy loves you so.

LYRICS:
And may you find all that you wanted
And what you lose will be remembered
And lay your head down soft at night

May what you give be more than taken
And always arms to wrap you up in
Keep you strong and opened wide

So don’t look back and don’t look down
See what you find

May you stay always in wonder
And let you see every corner
Keep you safe but on the lines

(chorus)

Joy’s be boundless, worries few
Meaning found, and sadness used
To see, to reach
Your light

And may love always surround you
And when it’s not, let yours ignite it

(CHORUS)(FIN)
